BRITISH OFFICES IN HAITI-Switzerland, 1867 unpaid folded letter from Port au Prince, which first entered the British mails at JACMEL on 8 September 1867, and was sent to St. Thomas aboard the Royal Mail steamship Danube. From here, it was carried to England aboard the Royal Mail Douro, then forwarded to France with the GB / 1F60c accountancy marking (Salles 3040). France applied the F.29 exchange marking (Salles 3166), then sent this letter to Switzerland under Article 29 of the Franco-Swiss Letter Bill. On arrival in Chaux de Fond, the letter was mistakenly marked for a collection of 130 centimes, then modified to reflect the correct 100 centimes postage due. This amount was a combination of the 10 centimes Swiss internal postage, plus the 90 centimes fee to France.
